We are seeking a hands-on, strategic Controller to lead and scale our accounting function. Reporting directly to the VP, this role will own all core accounting operations. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced SaaS environment, has deep technical accounting expertise and is comfortable operating both strategically and tactically. This is a unique opportunity to architect the accounting infrastructure of a scaled SaaS business—moving from outsourced to best-in-class in-house operations. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a builder mindset and thrives in environments requiring both strategic leadership and tactical execution.
This is an onsite role in our Montebello, NY headquarters in Rockland County.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Close
· Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; drive accuracy and timeliness
· Shorten and stabilize the close timeline
· Ensure GAAP-compliant financial statements and supporting schedules
· Continuously improve close processes, systems, and timelines
Revenue Recognition & SaaS Metrics
· Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
· Review contracts and provide technical accounting guidance on non-standard deals
· Build consistent reporting on recurring revenue, retention, gross margin, and key financial metrics
Financial Reporting
· Prepare and present financial statements and insights to the VP
· Support board reporting and investor materials as needed
· Maintain strong audit-ready documentation and schedules
Team Leadership
· Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing accounting team
· Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration
Systems & Process Improvement
· Optimize ERP and financial systems to support scale (NetSuite)
· Drive automation and process improvements across accounting workflows
Audit
· End-to-end annual audit process, serving as a point of contact for external auditors
· Ensure timely preparation of audit schedules, supporting documentation, and technical memos
· Establish and maintain audit-ready processes, documentation, and controls throughout the year
· Address audit findings, implement recommendations, and continuously strengthen the control environment
· Coordinate across departments to ensure accurate and complete audit support
Tax
· Oversee all aspects of tax compliance, including federal, state, and local filings (income, sales/use, and other indirect taxes)
· Manage relationships with external tax advisors while building internal oversight and ownership
· Evaluate nexus, sales tax exposure, and compliance requirements as the company scales
· Support tax planning strategies and initiatives in partnership with external advisors and leadership
What Success Looks Like
Requirements:
· Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance - CPA certification highly preferred
· Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and finance
· Experience as an early or first finance hire in a startup or high-growth environment strongly preferred
· Strong technical accounting foundation with the ability to operate strategically
· Comfortable building structure in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
· In-depth understanding of revenue recognition principles and their application in SaaS accounting, including ASC 606 and other relevant accounting standards
· Proficiency in analyzing customer contracts, pricing models, and billing structures in SaaS businesses.
· Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), especially as they pertain to software-as-a-service (SaaS) businesses
